Hospitality ScheduleMake it RedThe 2015 NML&W people’s choice contest will be “Make it Red” in honor of women’s heart disease. If it’s made of fiber and it’s mostly red, it can be entered! There’s no fee, but please download the registration form, and bring it with your project so we can make sure we know what project goes to whom. If you won’t be present when it’s time to pick up your project, you can designate someone on your form to pick it up for you. Entries may be brought to Hospitality from 9 am to 11 am Saturday morning. The show will be open for viewing and People’s Choice voting running from noon to 2:30 pm, with the winners announced at 4 pm. Categories will be announced as we get closer to the festival. Silly Knitting Contest in 2015Starting at 1 pm on Sunday, we will be having our “Silly Knitting” contest for all brave, fun-loving souls. Join us! The prizes are always great, and so’s the fun! No fee to pay, no need to sign up in advance. Just show up in Hospitality at 1 pm and you’ll be grabbed… I mean, entered for a fun contest! 2014 Fiber Show WinnersThe 2014 Fiber Show was themed “Sparkle and Bling”, and boy was there sparkle! There were many entries, with the winners chosen by People’s Choice voting. 2014 Fiber Contest WinnersWith many thanks to Briar Rose Fibers, Zeilinger Wool Company, Busy Hands, Mohair in Motion, and other vendors for generous prize donations! Sit and rest before, during, and after shopping, meet friends, have your lunch, sit and spin or knit, enjoy a complimentary cup of coffee or tea, show off your projects or purchases – Hospitality is for you! Of course it takes a lot of people power to make something this big happen, so contact Hospitality Chair Suzy Ivan, if you’d like to help out. She can use assistance Friday afternoon to help set up, Saturday and Sunday to staff the area, and Sunday afternoon to tear down. See our Volunteer Page for the benefits you receive as a NML&WF volunteer. |

Gutsy spinners tackling the craziest fibers! |
Can you imagine… knitting with spaghetti noodles as “needles”?!?! The intrepid kniting winners were Maria Riolo with 23 stitches, Michele Stead with 18. Personally, I can’t imagine how they did it! |

This year, we hope to welcome Rustic Heart back with their selections of songs ranging from Celtic to Mountain to Country music. The opportunity to watch them perform is worth a trip to the festival in itself! Kelly Shively and Norm Hausler are a pair of seasoned musicians who have played with many Northern Michigan musicians and also performed on their own as solo singer/instrumentalists. Kelly brings her original songs of family and home, along with her interpretations of traditional mountain music. Norm’s deep baritone voice lends itself to country classics and his own original songs. He is enjoying learning to accompany Kelly with mountain-modal tunings on his guitar, while Kelly surprises with turns on her fiddle, harp, banjo and a variety of other instruments. These two Northern Michiganders have combined their talents to form the duet Rustic Heart. The feeling is one of home when they play together and we’re in for a wonderful treat as they provide our music. |
